Never again!

Alumni Update 1

It is hard to express how much we appreciate updates on our pets.

Often they come to the pound in terrible shape. Conditions there are far from good. We take them to the vet, they get infrequent play times, and then they get to go to adoption day - and usually go back to the pound... and weeks go by. They get so excited when they get to go - as if they know this is their chance - and they are reluctant to go back into their runs at the pound. The next week is bedlam when the volunteers arrive and then is quiet as the dogs wait to see if they get to go this time. It is hard on the volunteers: they love to take them but hate to return them. Donations are often very low - a few dollars - and the volunteers know how much we are spending a week to give them another chance.

And then the right family walks up and a dog literally transforms - perk ears and a big grin  - forms are signed and a quick hug goodbye and they are gone - and the rest are loaded back up for the trip back to the pound.

Then you get a note and a picture from their new family .........

and you are ready to start all over again with the next one.

Thank you,

the Zeke Fund Volunteers

I am sending you these lines just to let you know that Terra is doing GREAT and we –the whole family- couldn’t be happier.
She was
OK from the first day but as time goes by she is showing her true self more and more.
The first couple of days she gladly accepted to be petted and hugged; now she is asking for it!!!   Every time she gets near to any of us she gets some petting (and now that my father is visiting she has one more) so we are afraid she might get an overdose.
She also learned to play. When Steve brought her home she didn’t know what to do with the toys but let me tell you guys she is a fast learner!!!
It took us five minutes to teach her. I simply started playing with Daniela
while Terra was watching us. Every time Daniela retrieved the toy back to me I kissed and hugged her.  Of course Terra wanted some of those kisses and congratulations too and that was it.
It’s also amazing to
watch her play differently with each member of the family.  She plays tougher with my husband and me, and more gently with the girls
The only
issue is that she seems not to be in very good shape because 5 minutes of playing is enough, leaving her almost out of breath.  However, as we take long walks in the neighborhood every day (and she LOVES it!!!), she is catching up quickly.   She needs the energy to go on chasing birds and bees in our back yard.
One funny story about her is that being such a big dog is hysterical to see
her being afraid of the dog door. Well…, she is not really afraid of it but she doesn’t dare to “push” the door with the head yet, so we have to “open” it for her to go through.  We hope she soon discovers the feeling of being completely free.
She simply is
“the perfect pet”.  She didn’t make any mess at all….well she chewed one of my husband’s working gloves the first night, but who wouldn’t be anxious in a strange place the first night?
You should’ve seen the girls’ faces in the morning being afraid we would reprimand Terra. We took the opportunity to let them know that it was “Daddy’s fault” for leaving the gloves at Terra’s reach and we also warned them that their toys would be in jeopardy as well if left on the floor.
Thanks to Terra, we have never had the first floor so neat!!!!
This is what I can tell you so far.
She’s been with us only a week but she already won a place in our family and hearts.
THANK YOU
Zeke Fund for the great work you do to save dogs and make families happy!!!
                                          Cheers. Mariana

Adopted - This little lady is Poppy. She is 9 months old, very gentle and loveable - she is also crate trained. Poppy had a broken leg that has  completely healed. UPDATE from her new home:

Poppy is so wonderful and she is doing great.  She is very, very happy and so am I - thanks for pointing her out to me.

She has gone to the vet three times, gotten her shots and first set of boosters and gets her final set of boosters in three weeks.  She is on Advantage and Heartguard, and apparently she had a very, very bad ear infection and ear mites when I got her - so, after some tenderly loving care and three different types of drops in her ears for every day for three weeks (which she didn't really care for at all - but tolerated, because she is so sweet and good-natured), that has cleared up nicely and she doesn't even scratch at her ears any more.  Her ear, where the other dogs were chewing on her, is all healed, too.  Oh - her fleas are all gone, too, so she hasn't had a problem with that, either - and I will keep her on the Advantage because it works so well.

She is my best friend and I just love her to death - I work full time, but I still walk her twice in the morning before I come to work and twice in the evening when I get home.  She is so loving and sweet - and she sleeps with me every night, even though I got a crate for her and a separate bed that's on the floor of my bedroom.  She's been really warm for me the past two nights!  On the weekends she gets 5 walks a day and I have this great big business park behind my townhouse that has lots of trees and landscaping and is just a great place for us to walk because it is basically empty since all the businesses are closed on the weekends or in the mornings/evenings when we go out.  She just loves it.

It's nice to have a pet that I can take with me anywhere, too.  I have dinner with my parents (they live in Spring Branch where I grew up - 5 minutes away from my home behind PetsMart) every Tuesday night and I usually take her with me.  My mom loves her and my step-dad, who doesn't like animals at all, even thinks she's okay.  She has lots of toys and loves her treats - I give her C.E.T. chews, usually one a day, because they are good for her teeth - they basically keep her teeth clean - I get them from the vet.  She still has lots of puppy in her - she loves to play a game with me in the morning - she tries to get my socks when I put them on, so we have fun going back and forth with that.  I actually got her a cheap pair of socks that I gave to her so she can have her own socks - we play tug-of-war with them in the evening.

Anyway - I am sure this is alot more information than you wanted - but I want to say thank you again for pointing her out to me - I am very blessed to have her in my life.  She is just a doll and I love her.  I hope you and your family are doing well - you are truly a blessing for the work you do with animals like Poppy.

We adopted Bullet 7/2/05 from you when you were at the Petco on Hwy 6 N.  I wanted to let you know that he has really settled into our family.  We did change his name to Max and he is really starting to respond well to it.  He has made friends with our other dogs, Oreo and Dunny.  He and Oreo are starting to rough house some (Oreo is about 1/3 Max's size).  Max is trying to make friends with Dilbert, our cat.  He is making progress because Dilbert's hair isn't standing as high as the first day.  The girls and I have started walking him at night and he loves it.  We also were able to get a large kennel for him and he has no problem laying in his space, he also likes to sleep in bed with who ever will let him.  He seems to be really  happy and we love having him in the family.
                                  Sincerely, Lisa

Thanks Steve!  I believe you were the one I adopted Shiloh from.  She is such a sweet puppy and we are really enjoying her!  I’ve attached a few pictures we took of her around the house.

Thanks!

Shelly

Our buddy Max has settled into his new home - check back for updates!

7/2205 - Max is doing great...his wound is healed and he really enjoys being with us...We go outside and play ball at least once a day and he loves to fetch.  He gets along great with our other animals and he is really good with the baby. I will send you more pictures as I take them....

Thanks,

Fred

We finally got together for a family picture with Bear.  It's been long overdue but...we got it!  Bear is doing great.  He gives us unconditional love and joy.  Our children loves him very very much.  They are so much happier having Bear to play with.  My daughter is no longer allergic to Bear.  She's been kissing him all the time (he's her "son", you know!) and no longer breaking out into hives.  She doesn't have to take shots for that either which is the greatest thing for someone with "needle-phobia" like her.  Bear loves to chase William around the house.  He's very smart as how to catch William.  He often tricks William to think that he runs behind him when he actually turns around to catch William by surprise in the opposite direction.  They have great fun together on the floor when crashing into each other.

Thank you for all you've done.  Have a great day!

Regards,
David, Diane, Catherine and William Tran
